September Has A Packed Line-Up Of Films Hitting Indian Theatres.

If you thought September was going to be a quiet month at the movies, that’s absolutely wrong! Indian theatres are looking at nearly 50 films currently scheduled for release this month, across Bollywood, South Indian cinema, Hollywood and regional industries.

However, it should be noted that all these 50 big-ticket films are not fighting for the box office. The number also includes smaller regional and limited releases.

A Banging Start

The month opened on September 3 with I’m Game and Romanchakam. On September 4, the biggest release is Mirzapur: The Movie, alongside films such as Immortal, Ramba Oorvasi Menaka, Onslaught, How To Rob A Bank and The Magic Faraway Tree. Several smaller regional films, including Bol Bhavein Na Bol, 7 Star Boys, 4 Idiots, Paavai, Mahaprabhu Jagannath and Aasha, are also part of the weekend’s theatrical line-up.

The interesting part is that these films are not necessarily competing for the same audience. Mirzapur: The Movie is a Hindi franchise release, while Immortal and Ramba Oorvasi Menaka cater to South Indian audiences.

The Second Weekend Gets Even Busier

On September 10, Karthi’s Sardar 2 and Mandaadi arrive, followed by a packed September 11 slate led by Haiwaan and Last Man In Tower. Other films scheduled around the date include EPIC – First Semester, Singh Vs Kaur 2, Mahendragiri Varahi, Dahaan: The Evil Within, The Uprising, Fall 2: Deadpoint, America America 2, Jayanti 2 and Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar.

September 18 Weekend Mania

The September 18 weekend has some of the month’s biggest mainstream titles. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Daayra and Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe arrive alongside Hollywood releases Resident Evil and Practical Magic 2. Films such as The Weight, Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom, Kirunage, Autobi, City Lights, Firki, Mitti De Putt and Love Lottery are also currently listed.

A week later, on September 24, Nani’s multilingual film The Paradise enters theatres.

September 25 Could Be The Real Traffic Jam

The final weekend is stacked with titles including The Vvaan: Force Of The Forest, Heart Of The Beast, Lenin Pandiyan, Dorothy, Forgotten Island, Primetime, Mitrata and Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha – Shri Ram Ki.

International cinema is also making a strong push. Korean sci-fi thriller HOPE, starring Michael Fassbender, Hoyeon and Hwang Jung-min, is scheduled to release in India on September 25. Marvel is also bringing back Avengers: Endgame Encore on the same day.

The Number Is Not Set In Stone

There is one important catch: theatrical release dates can change quickly. Some films that appeared on earlier September calendars have already moved to October, including Demonte Colony 3, Don’t Trouble The Trouble and Ranabaali.

So the current figure is best described as nearly 50 films scheduled to release in Indian theatres in September, rather than a fixed official number.
