Bipasha Basu returns to acting after six years with Hansal Mehta’s Prime Video series.
Bipasha Basu is returning to acting after a six-year break. The actress has begun filming an untitled Prime Video Original series directed by Hansal Mehta, with Sunny Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa also joining the cast.
Prime Video announced on Monday that production on the series has officially commenced. The project is written by Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker and is being produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under Almighty Motion Pictures Productions.
The series marks Bipasha’s first acting project since the 2020 web series Dangerous. Her last full-fledged theatrical release was Alone in 2015.
Bipasha Basu Joins Hansal Mehta’s Crime Drama
The upcoming series is set in a small town that is rapidly turning into a major hub for the heroin trade.
According to the official synopsis, Sunny Kaushal plays an incorruptible police officer who finds himself caught between criminal forces and pressures from within the system while trying to hold on to his integrity.
The synopsis reads, “Set in a small, nondescript town on the verge of becoming the heroin capital of the continent, the series follows an incorruptible cop, played by Sunny Kaushal, who finds himself battling powerful forces both within and outside the system while struggling to protect his integrity and humanity.”
Details about Bipasha and Vishal Jethwa’s characters have not yet been revealed.
The title and release date of the show are also being kept under wraps for now.
Bipasha Returns To A Film Set After Six Years
Bipasha has remained largely away from acting over the past several years.
She married actor Karan Singh Grover in April 2016 and the couple welcomed their daughter, Devi, in November 2022.
Her previous screen appearance came in Dangerous, a crime thriller series released in 2020 in which she starred alongside Karan.
Before that, she was seen in Bhushan Patel’s horror thriller Alone in 2015. The film featured Bipasha in the dual roles of twin sisters Sanjana and Anjana and also starred Karan opposite her.
The new Prime Video series therefore brings her back to an acting set after an extended gap.
Sunny Kaushal And Vishal Jethwa Join The Cast
Sunny Kaushal comes to the project after Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, the 2024 mystery thriller in which he played Abhimanyu.
Vishal Jethwa, meanwhile, was recently seen in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, where he played Chandan Kumar. His performance in the 2025 film received critical appreciation.
The new show puts Sunny at the centre of its crime narrative, while further details about how Bipasha and Vishal fit into the story are yet to be announced.
Hansal Mehta Has Gandhi In The Works
Hansal Mehta’s last feature directorial was The Buckingham Murders, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, which released theatrically in 2024.
The filmmaker is also working on Gandhi, a historical streaming series based on Ramachandra Guha’s books Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World.
The first season covers the period from 1888 to 1915 and includes Mahatma Gandhi’s years in London and South Africa. Filming for that season was completed in August 2024.
