Yami Gautam turns Mohini’s muh dikhayi into a high-energy celebration in Nayyi Navelli song Bhabhi Tabaahi, composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar.
Yami Gautam performs as Mohini in Nayyi Navelli song Bhabhi Tabaahi during a wedding celebration.
After teasing audiences with the question of whether its newest bahu is really a “daayan”, Nayyi Navelli has now introduced Yami Gautam Dhar’s character, Mohini, through its first song, Bhabhi Tabaahi. The track places her right in the middle of a colourful wedding celebration, turning her traditional muh dikhayi into an energetic musical sequence.
Presented by Zee Music, Bhabhi Tabaahi has been composed and produced by G. V. Prakash Kumar, written by Vayu and sung by Neeti Mohan. The song moves between Bhangra, rap, classical influences and hip-hop as Yami makes her entry as the family’s new bhabhi.
Yami Gautam Takes Centre Stage As Mohini
Bhabhi Tabaahi offers a closer look at Mohini after the film’s teaser built intrigue around her arrival in the family. The song unfolds during her muh dikhayi and gives Yami plenty of room to dance while playing with the character’s changing expressions.
Choreographer Vijay Ganguly said Mohini’s personality dictated the movement and attitude of the number.
“Bhabhi Tabaahi’ was one of the most fun songs I have choreographed, and it was even more special with Yami who is playing Mohini in the film. Mohini has a distinct personality, and can change expressions and dance forms on the click of a beat,” he said.
Ganguly added that the choreography needed “the same confidence with just the right amount of cheekiness” to stay true to Mohini. He also singled out the devar-bhabhi face-off as one of the portions he particularly enjoyed choreographing.
According to him, Yami put in considerable work to execute the song’s longer takes while retaining spontaneity in the performance.
GV Prakash Kumar On Mixing Four Musical Styles
Composer G. V. Prakash Kumar said the intention behind Bhabhi Tabaahi was to create something firmly desi without making the arrangement predictable.
“‘Bhabhi Tabaahi’ was one of those songs where we just wanted to have fun with the sound. It has a very desi flavour, but at the same time it has to feel fresh and have a lot of energy,” he said.
The composer explained that the team experimented with both rhythm and arrangement while bringing together different sounds. He credited Vayu’s lyrics with adding a mischievous quality to the song and said Neeti Mohan’s voice brought further character to it.
Prakash also praised Yami for understanding what the sequence required from Mohini. “There’s a little bit of madness running through the whole thing, which I think is what makes the song so enjoyable,” he added, describing it as the sort of number that could play at a family celebration with everyone joining in.
