Veteran actress Anita Kanwal recently opened up about her financial struggles, revealing that her savings could run out within a year if she is unable to find work. The actress, who once worked in 13 shows at a time, said that she is still looking for meaningful opportunities and wants to continue earning. Let’s know more about her.
Who Is Anita Kanwal?
Anita Kanwal became popular for playing Mrs Seth in the 1990s show Banegi Apni Baat. She played a negative character who gets her own son killed. Anita started her television career with Chanakya in 1991, where she played Subhada, a spy in Taxila. She later appeared in shows like Humrahi, Junoon and Just Mohabbat. From 2000 to 2004, she played Mrs Dhillon in the children’s show Sonpari. She was also seen in Sasural Genda Phool, Gustakh Dil, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Sasural Genda Phool 2.
Apart from television, Anita has also acted in films. She made her film debut with Geetanjali in 1993. A year later, she appeared in Shah Rukh Khan’s film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, where she played Chris’s mother. Her other films include Laawaris, Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Gangaajal and The Hangman.
Anita has also worked as a producer. In 2002, she started her own production house and produced the TV show Goonj Ateet Ki.

‘My Funds Are Running Low’: Anita Kanwal
In a recent conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Anita Kanwal said that her house is her primary asset and that the money she has set aside will not sustain her indefinitely. “I need to earn. Maybe I’ll live for 10 more years or 20 more years, what will I do? I live in a beautiful house which some of it was done by my parents, some I took loan and I paid it off. So that is my only asset and I have a little capital which I know will be exhausted in a year, so that’s why I need work. My funds are running low,” she said.
‘I Don’t Want To Depend On My Children’
Anita Kanwal said her children are willing to help her financially, but she would rather maintain the independence she has built over the years.
“I never want to reach a point where I have to depend on my children or ask them for anything. I want to continue providing them, just like always. They sometimes ask, ‘Mom, why do you still give us birthday gifts?’ It actually hurts me when they say that, because I enjoy giving. I want to remain in a position where I can continue to do so,” she said.
