Anil Pandit, the alleged mastermind behind the firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai on Sunday, reportedly offered accused Rehan Rs 34,000 to carry out the attack and promised to send him abroad, Rajasthan Police sources told News18 India on Tuesday.
According to the sources, Pandit, who is suspected to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was reportedly connected live from California during the incident. Investigators are probing the alleged role of the US-based operative in orchestrating the attack and coordinating with those on the ground.
The latest revelations shed light on the alleged planning behind the October 18 shooting in Mumbai’s Juhu area, where three assailants opened fire at a vehicle carrying Shroff. The actor escaped serious injury, but his driver and a bystander were injured in the incident. Seven rounds were fired at the car, according to preliminary accounts of the attack.
Sources said Hrithik, one of the three accused arrested in connection with the case, had been assigned the task of conducting reconnaissance of Shroff’s location. The investigators are examining how the accused allegedly tracked the actor’s movements before the shooting.
Haircuts, Changed Clothes And A Train Escape
The accused allegedly attempted to alter their appearance while fleeing after the attack. According to Rajasthan Police sources, Rehan and a minor accused had long hair at the time of the incident but cut their hair and changed their clothes while travelling on the train.
The three accused also reportedly took precautions to avoid drawing attention during their journey. They were seated separately in different coaches of the train, sources said.
When the train reached Kota in Rajasthan, two of the accused were reportedly asleep on the upper berths, while the third had got off at the station to buy ‘pakoras’. The police subsequently detained all three in Kota as they travelled away from Mumbai following the shooting.
The accused have been identified as Rehan, Hrithik Kumar, and a minor. They were apprehended in a joint operation involving Rajasthan Police and Mumbai Police, following inputs about their movements after the attack. They were later handed over to Mumbai Police for further investigation.
