Parzaan Dastur, who became a familiar face to Bollywood audiences as the little Sikh boy in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, later moved behind the camera and worked as an assistant director on films associated with Karan Johar. The former child actor, who shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol at just six years old, went on to explore writing and filmmaking as he grew older.

His most memorable moment remains the scene in which his character, with tears in his eyes, asks Kajol’s Anjali, ‘Tussi Jaa Rahe Ho? Tussi Na Jao’. The line became one of the film’s most recognisable moments.

Parzaan Dastur’s Childhood Career In Bollywood

Parzaan was only six when he starred in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In a conversation with Brut India in 2021, he recalled his memories of working with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. People often tell him how lucky he was to have had the opportunity to be in the arms of the Bollywood superstar. He fondly remembered spending time with Kajol, including going on walks with the actor during the shoot.

After the 1998 film, Parzaan continued to act in Hindi films. His credits as a child actor included Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Zubeidaa, Hum Tum, Haathi Ka Anda and Break Ke Baad.

He later took on more challenging roles. In Rahul Dholakia’s Parzania (2007), he played a boy who goes missing during the 2002 Gujarat riots. In Piyush Jha’s Sikandar (2009), he played a young boy who dreams of becoming a footballer but finds his life changed after discovering a gun.

The Child Actor Also Starred In Popular Advertisements

Parzaan’s popularity was not limited to films. He starred in memorable advertisements, including the Dhara commercial in which he says ‘jalebi’. He also featured in an advertisement for Ganga Soap.

He explored voice acting as well. In the 2004 film Hum Tum, starring Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan, he lent his voice to an animated character.

Parzaan Dastur Worked Behind The Camera

Parzaan studied business management and later returned to filmmaking, taking up assistant director roles and working on many projects.

His work behind the camera included Student of the Year (2012), the film that introduced Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt to Bollywood. He also worked on Kareena Kareena, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013), starring Imran Khan, and Fitoor (2016), featuring Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur.

Parzaan was last seen on screen in Pocket Mummy in 2017, a project in which he also worked as a writer.

After working as an assistant director for a few years, Parzaan joined a digital marketing firm, where he developed an interest in writing. He later started his own production house, Ten Colour Productions.

For nearly 10 years, he has been making advertisements, music videos, branded content and fiction projects. He also hosts a filmmaking podcast, TCP Originals, where he talks to writers and filmmakers about screenwriting.
