US actor Selma Blair, known for her roles in ‘Cruel Intentions‘ and ‘Legally Blonde‘, was arrested after allegedly assaulting two flight attendants aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York, authorities said on Monday.
The 54-year-old was taken into custody late Sunday after the flight arrived at John F Kennedy International Airport, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
US media reports said Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another during the flight. She and one of the crew members were taken to hospital for medical evaluation, authorities said.
A representative for Blair said the actor had experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged behaviour.
“Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” the representative said.
FBI Issues Summons Over Alleged Assault
The FBI has issued Blair a summons over alleged assaults aboard the aircraft, according to a federal law enforcement official.
The charges listed on the violation notice relate to assaults within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States. The case is expected to be handled by the petty violations court at the federal court in Brooklyn, though no date has been set for her appearance.
The FBI confirmed it had been informed of a potential assault aboard a flight that arrived at JFK but declined to comment further, citing its policy on ongoing investigations.
Delta Air Lines said it had zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, adding that the safety of passengers and crew remained its priority.
Blair, who has also starred in ‘Hellboy‘, was involved in another incident aboard a flight in 2016. She was removed from a plane on a stretcher after an outburst during a journey from Cancun to Los Angeles.
At the time, she apologised for her behaviour and told Vanity Fair that mixing alcohol with medication had caused her to black out.
“I deeply regret” the things she said and did, she said.
Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 and has since become an advocate for disability rights. In 2023, she joined then US President Joe Biden at the White House to mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
