Imran Khan has received a second FRRO notice seeking reasons against cancelling his OCI status as he challenges the ‘Leave India’ order in the Bombay High Court.

Imran Khan was recently detained during protests in Mumbai.
Imran Khan participated in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, following which he received a ‘Leave India’ notice from the Mumbai office of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). Imran Khan moved the Bombay High Court on Saturday to challenge the notice, but the actor has now reportedly received another notice.
A report by The Times of India says the FRRO sent him a second notice, asking him to show cause why his Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status should not be cancelled. The notice states that Imran was part of a protest for which permission had not been granted and that a case had been registered against him and other protesters.
Following the notice, the FRRO has sought a response from Imran Khan’s side within 15 days, as the law provides for a hearing before his OCI status can be revoked under the provisions of the Citizenship Act, 1955. The FRRO has now acknowledged that an FIR and detention are not sufficient grounds for cancelling his OCI registration, nor can his participation in the protest alone be grounds for cancellation.
Following his participation in the protest, the police alleged that he had violated the Foreigners Act, as he is not an Indian citizen. The Mumbai office of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) subsequently served a ‘Leave India’ notice on Imran Khan, asking him to leave the country by October 28. Imran has now challenged the order before the Bombay High Court.
Imran Khan Was Detained in Mumbai
Imran Khan was detained on October 10 while protesting in Mumbai amid the CJP’s Jantar Mantar protest. Following his detention, the actor took to Instagram to share a picture from inside a police van and wrote, “Apparently, I’m going for a drive.” Lekha Washington, Imran Khan’s girlfriend, also shared a story, writing, “Romance ho to aisi.”
The Delhi Belly actor said he had joined the protest in an individual capacity rather than as a representative of any political group. “I don’t have any status to demand anything from people. Nor am I a part of any organisation, so I don’t speak as a representative,” he told reporters at the site.
