Paris has also been an important part of several Bollywood stories. Here are some films that took audiences to the City of Love.

Ranveer Singh’s Befikre was also widely shot in Paris.
The Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most popular landmarks, and Bollywood has long shared a special relationship with the iconic Paris monument. From romantic songs and grand love stories to characters discovering themselves in the French capital, several Hindi films have used Paris as more than just a backdrop.
The Eiffel Tower was temporarily shut to visitors on September 7 after staff staged a walkout over allegations that female employees were asked to step aside during a private visit by a Hindu religious delegation. The incident has put the Paris landmark in the spotlight for an unexpected reason.
As the news around Eiffel Tower’s shutdown make global headlines, let’s take a look at the Bollywood films which were shot in Paris:
Befikre (2016)
If there is one Bollywood film that is synonymous with modern-day Paris, it is Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor’s Befikre. Directed by Aditya Chopra, the 2016 romantic comedy was shot entirely in Paris. The film used the city’s streets, cafes and landmarks to tell its carefree love story. Even the trailer of the film was launched at the Eiffel Tower.
Queen (2013)
Kangana Ranaut’s Queen gave Paris a very different cinematic treatment. Instead of making the city merely a backdrop for romance, Vikas Bahl’s film followed Rani as she travels alone to Paris after her wedding is called off. Besides Kangana, the film also starred Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao in key roles.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)
Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil also took audiences to Paris as part of its international setting. Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s characters were seen against several picturesque locations in the French capital. The film was partly shot in Paris before the production moved to Austria and other locations.
An Evening In Paris
Long before Bollywood’s contemporary fascination with Paris, Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore took audiences to the French capital in An Evening In Paris. The 1967 film is remembered as one of Hindi cinema’s early major showcases of Paris and its landmarks. It can be said that this movie helped in establishing the Eiffel Tower and Paris’ romantic atmosphere as an aspirational Bollywood destination.
Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007)
Abhishek Bachchan and Lara Dutta’s Jhoom Barabar Jhoom also featured Paris in its visual landscape. The film included memorable sequences with the Eiffel Tower forming part of the backdrop, adding to Bollywood’s long-standing association between Paris and romance.
