Mohanlal is the host of Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 8
The wait is almost over for fans of Bigg Boss Malayalam. Season 8 is finally ready to get going on Sunday, September 6. Mohanlal is back as the host for the eighth consecutive season, with the grand opening ceremony scheduled for 7 pm on Sunday. The official contestant line-up is expected to be revealed during the premiere, but several names have already started doing the rounds online.
According to a report by the Times of India, playback singer Suchitra is among those rumoured to be entering the Bigg Boss Malayalam house. Suchitra, who began her career as a radio jockey before becoming a playback singer, has often made headlines for her outspoken views. She was also associated with the controversial #Suchileaks social media campaign and has made unfiltered comments about several Tamil cinema personalities.
This would not be her first experience with the Bigg Boss format. Suchitra previously participated in Bigg Boss Tamil Season 4, which was hosted by Kamal Haasan.
Another name creating buzz is political commentator Rahul Easwar. He has previously appeared on Malayalee House, a reality show based on the original Big Brother format that came before Bigg Boss Malayalam.
The rumoured list does not end there. Singer-composer Sreenath Sivasankaran, social media personality and activist Sreelakshmi Arackal, and content creators Vighnesh Venu, better known as Wikky Thug, and Sanoom Lepcha are also being linked to the upcoming season.
Season 8 has also introduced a change in the way commoners could make their way into the main show. Instead of directly beginning with the regular season, the makers first brought viewers Bigg Boss Agnipareeksha, a pre-show designed to select commoner contestants. The concept was inspired by the Telugu version’s spin-off of the reality franchise.
Former Bigg Boss contestants Ranjini Haridas, Riyas Salim and Akhil Marar were part of the selection process as judges, while Season 3 alumna Reneesha Rahiman hosted Agnipareeksha.
Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 8 comes nearly 10 months after the conclusion of the previous season. While the names doing the rounds have sparked plenty of discussion, viewers will have to wait for the premiere for confirmation of the final line-up.
The Malayalam edition is also sharing the Sunday premiere slot with several other regional versions of the franchise. Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20, hosted by Salman Khan, Bigg Boss Tamil Season 10, hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, Bigg Boss Kannada Season 13, hosted by Sudeepa, and Bigg Boss Telugu Season 10, hosted by Nagarjuna, are all set to premiere on the same day.
