Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan unite for AR Rahman’s Asha Forever. Here’s how the tribute differs from Asha Bhosle’s final film song.

Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan come together for AR Rahman’s Asha Forever tribute to Asha Bhosle.
Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan sharing the screen remains one of Hindi cinema’s most elusive casting possibilities. This time, however, it is music rather than a movie that has brought the three superstars under one roof. The actors have joined Asha Forever, AR Rahman’s tribute to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle.
The project was conceived while Bhosle was alive, with Rahman working on recordings connected to the tribute. Following her death on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92, Asha Forever is being completed as a celebration of her musical legacy.
What Exactly Is Asha Forever?
Asha Forever is a tribute music video spearheaded by AR Rahman. It was already in development during Bhosle’s lifetime, and Rahman had hoped she would see the finished project herself.
A teaser released earlier this year featured glimpses of Bhosle alongside musicians involved in the recording. Musicians from Trinity Laban are also associated with the project.
The tribute assumes greater significance because of Rahman and Bhosle’s own musical association. Instead of putting together a retrospective only after her death, Asha Forever grew from work that had begun with the singer herself.
Why Are Aamir, Shah Rukh And Salman Khan Part Of It?
Rahman has gradually revealed the names joining Asha Forever. Shah Rukh was among the first Bollywood superstars confirmed, followed by Salman. Aamir’s participation subsequently completed the three-Khan combination.
Announcing Aamir’s involvement, Rahman wrote, “Some artists have a rare ability to make every moment meaningful,” while thanking the actor for joining the celebration of Bhosle’s legacy.
Rahman also acknowledged Salman’s affection for the late singer while announcing him as part of the tribute. Shah Rukh had earlier agreed to participate in the project.
Seeing the three together is particularly significant because they have never headlined a feature film as a trio despite spending more than three decades at the forefront of Hindi cinema.
Aamir had even revealed in 2024 that he discussed the possibility of making a film together with Shah Rukh and Salman. Asha Forever is not that much-awaited three-hero film, but it will offer audiences the rare sight of all three participating in the same project.
Who Else Is Joining Asha Forever?
The tribute extends beyond the Khans. Kamal Haasan is also associated with Asha Forever, while filmmaker Karan Johar has joined the project.
Rahman previously revealed that he and Karan spoke over a video call about music, cinema and different generations of artists. With names from several generations participating, the project is being assembled as a larger tribute from the film fraternity to Bhosle.
Is This Asha Bhosle’s Final Playback Song?
Asha Forever has arrived around the same time as news about Bhosle’s final feature-film playback recording, but the two are separate projects.
Her final recorded film song is Ae Meri Zindagi, Tu Chupi Hai Kahan from director Harish Vyas’ upcoming film Om Ka Hari. Recorded in late 2023, the song will be released on September 8, 2026, marking Bhosle’s birth anniversary.
The film stars Anshuman Jha, Raghubir Yadav, Soni Razdan and Ayesha Kapur and revolves around a father-son relationship marked by generational conflict and unspoken emotions.
“Om Ka Hari is deeply special to me because, at its heart, it is about the importance of saying ‘I love you’ to your father, something I never got the chance to do,” Anshuman said.
Why Asha Forever Is Significant
Across a career spanning seven decades, Bhosle recorded more than 12,000 songs and moved across film music, pop, ghazals, classical compositions and several Indian languages. Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Dum Maro Dum, Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko and Yeh Mera Dil remain among her best-known songs.
Asha Forever brings together Aamir, Shah Rukh, Salman, Kamal Haasan, Karan Johar and other participants to celebrate that legacy. Meanwhile, Ae Meri Zindagi, Tu Chupi Hai Kahan will arrive separately on September 8 as Bhosle’s final feature-film playback recording.
As of August 31, a release date for the complete Asha Forever music video has not been announced.
