Ishaan Khatter’s The Royals Season 2 Gets New Director Yet Again? Tanuj Chopra To Now Helm Series
The making of The Royals Season 2, starring Ishaan Khatter, has seen yet another change in the director’s chair. After Jasmeet K Reen was reportedly relieved of her duties just three days into the shoot in Jaisalmer, Mitakshara Kumar, who came on board as her replacement, has also exited the Netflix series. According to Variety India, Tanuj Chopra has now taken over as director. The filmmaker is known for directing the second and third seasons of Netflix’s acclaimed crime drama Delhi Crime.
The Royals Season 2 Gets A New Director
The latest development comes after Mitakshara Kumar was brought in to take the project forward following Jasmeet’s reported exit. Kumar has previously worked closely with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on films such as Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat and Gangubai Kathiawadi. She also directed episodes of Bhansali’s Netflix series Heeramandi.
However, her stint on The Royals Season 2 appears to have been short-lived. A source quoted by Variety India claimed that her creative vision did not align with that of the team. The report also stated that the separation was amicable.
While neither the production team nor the streaming platform has publicly detailed the reasons behind the latest change, the development marks another shift for the series as filming continues.
Tanuj Chopra Takes Over
Following Mitakshara’s departure, the makers reportedly moved quickly to find another director. According to the publication, Netflix suggested Tanuj Chopra for the job, and he has since taken over the project.
“Mitakshara and the team of ‘The Royals’ have parted amicably. She has been replaced by Tanuj Chopra, the US-based Indian director who directed Season 2 and 3 of the Netflix series ‘Delhi Crime’,” a source told Variety India.
The production has also moved locations. According to the report, filming has shifted from Jaipur to Mumbai, with shooting resuming under Tanuj Chopra’s direction.
About The Royals Season 2
Ishaan Khatter will return to lead the show, while Miss India 2022 winner Sini Shetty is said to be joining him as the new female lead.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, Sini will replace Bhumi Pednekar, who starred opposite Ishaan in the first season. The new chapter is also expected to introduce a love triangle involving Ishaan, Sini and Gurfateh Pirzada.
While details about the plot remain under wraps, the casting change suggests that The Royals will take its romantic storyline in a new direction after Bhumi Pednekar’s exit as the female lead.
