Udta Teer is scheduled for a theatrical release in India on October 23, 2026.
Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming film Udta Teer has hit a roadblock ahead of its theatrical release. While the film was scheduled to release on October 23, Nepal has denied permission for its public screening. The decision was taken following a review by Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board, which reportedly found that the film violated a provision of the country’s cinema law. However, the authorities have not yet publicly specified the exact reason for banning the Indian film as of now.
According to a report by India Today, Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology communicated its decision to the film’s local distributor, National Cine Group Nepal Pvt. Ltd., through an official letter. The ministry refused to grant permission for the film’s public exhibition following the censor board’s assessment.
Why Has Nepal Denied Permission For Udta Teer?
Reportedly, the ministry’s decision was based on a provision of Nepal’s National Cinema (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act. The Central Film Censor Board reportedly concluded that the film’s production fell under content prohibited by the legislation.
While the authorities have not explicitly detailed their objections to the film’s storyline, Udta Teer revolves around an India-Pakistan espionage mission. The film follows a Pakistani spy who enters India but loses his memory after an accident, eventually believing that he is an Indian counterterrorism officer.
It should be noted that the restriction applies to its screening in Nepal, while its planned Indian theatrical release remains October 23.
