Set in 1990s Goa, Little Thomas follows the story of a young boy and his parents, with Rasika playing Jessie Miranda, a mother whose life revolves around her family.

Rasika Dugal’s Little Thomas will hit theatres on October 23, 2026.
Rasika Dugal is all set to return to the big screen with Little Thomas, but this time, audiences are going to see a side of the actress that is far removed from her much-loved and intensely powerful persona of Beena Tripathi. While Beena from Mirzapur became synonymous with Rasika’s sharp gaze, controlled intensity and unapologetic attitude, her character Jessie Miranda in Little Thomas belongs to an entirely different emotional world.
Set in 1990s Goa, Little Thomas follows the story of a young boy and his parents, with Rasika playing Jessie Miranda, a mother whose life revolves around her family, her bakery and her love for music. The contrast between Jessie and Beena is not merely cosmetic, but she also had consciously worked towards creating a completely different screen identity for the character.
Speaking about the experience, Rasika said, “Surprisingly, I enjoyed juggling a crime action thriller and a dramedy. I guess one was a relief from the other,” as she was shooting both Mirzapur and Little Thomas simultaneously.
One of the biggest challenges for Rasika was switching between the accents required for the two projects. While Beena’s character speaks Hindi with a distinct North Indian accent, Jessie required the actress to adopt a Goan accent. “The switch in accents was the confusing bit but also an interesting challenge,” she said.
To ensure that Jessie’s voice did not carry traces of Beena’s manner of speaking, Rasika worked with a dialect coach. The preparation was part of her effort to keep the two characters separate, particularly as she was moving between their worlds while filming both projects.
Apart from the accent, Rasika also immersed herself in Jessie’s love for music. The actress underwent four months of piano training for the film, learning complex compositions by celebrated composers, including Mozart, Schumann and Chopin.
Talking about how the preparation evolved, Rasika said, “Jessie’s love for playing the piano became more a part of my prep work than Kaushal and I intended it to be. But it unexpectedly gave me an entry into a world that I felt I didn’t know so well.”
