Actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the hit television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34. His death was confirmed by his representatives on October 12, 2026. No cause of death has been announced. Beyond his acting career, Mitte was known for advocating disability representation in the entertainment industry, drawing on his own experience of living with cerebral palsy.

Who Was RJ Mitte?

Born on August 21, 1992, in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitte moved to Los Angeles with his family in 2006 as he began exploring acting. He initially appeared in smaller roles and worked on television shows, including Hannah Montana and Everybody Hates Chris, before landing the role that changed his career.

Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child. He shared the condition with the character he played in Breaking Bad, although his own condition was milder. His personal experience helped him bring authenticity to the role.

RJ Mitte’s Breakthrough Role In Breaking Bad

Mitte rose to international recognition as Walter White Jr., the son of Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, in Breaking Bad. The crime drama followed a chemistry teacher who turns to manufacturing illegal drugs after being diagnosed with cancer.

Mitte appeared throughout the show’s five-season run, from 2008 to 2013. His character, also known as Flynn, initially looks up to his father but struggles as the truth about Walter’s criminal life comes to light. The role made Mitte widely recognisable and brought greater attention to disability representation on television.

His Other Films And Television Shows

After Breaking Bad, Mitte continued to work across television and films. His credits included the family drama Switched at Birth, the superhero satire The Guardians of Justice, and films such as The Recall, The Oak Room and Triumph.

In Triumph, a 2021 coming-of-age drama, he played a high school wrestler with cerebral palsy. He also worked as a producer on independent film projects.

RJ Mitte’s Work For Disability Representation

Mitte used his public profile to challenge stereotypes about people with disabilities and call for greater inclusion in entertainment. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, and was president of the Mitte Foundation.

He also supported campaigns for performers with disabilities and spoke about bullying and the barriers faced by disabled people. His work extended beyond acting, making disability awareness an important part of his public life.
