The devastating flash floods near the Nepal-Tibet border were caused by a glacier collapse in Tibet. A large chunk of glacier broke off at an altitude of 5,200 meters, sending a torrent of ice and rock that blocked the Lende Khola River. The accumulating water eventually broke through this barrier, creating a powerful surge of mud and debris that flowed into the Bhote Koshi River.
