Aamir Khan recently attended the Singapore International Film Festival, where he was reportedly seen breaking down on stage while recalling his acting career and talking about his life. The actor opened up about how he worked so hard for decades that it cost him his personal relationships, including those with his family.
On stage, Aamir was asked about the weakest moment of his career. “When I was sitting in COVID, and I was thinking, I said, about 30 years have passed in my life. And it’s okay to work like a madman, completely obsessed with what you’re doing for one year, two years, five years. But if it goes on for 30 years, I mean, you’ve lost your relationships. Your kids have grown up; they’re adults now. So I felt a deep sense of loss,” he replied.
The actor reportedly broke down on stage and apologised to the audience. He mentioned that this thought caused him to make major changes in his life. As he wiped his tears away, he said that in the last four years, he has intentionally made more time for his family. “I’m so glad that this thought occurred to me when I was 56 and not when I was 86, when it would be really too late to do anything about it,” he added.
Aamir Khan has been quite vocal about being an “absent father” to his kids. Even last year, at a Loveyapa event, the actor mentioned, “As a father, I have been quite absent. I used to be in my own world, while my kids navigated their childhood on their own…” In 2024, Aamir and his daughter Ira Khan revealed that they were in therapy together to fix issues which had been going on for many years.
“Ira was struggling with depression at the time; she is much better now. But then she needed me. Junaid is starting his career. He has lived his life without me. And now, perhaps he is taking the last big step in his life, towards his career. If I am not with him at this time, then what’s the point? Azad is 9 years old now. In another 3 years, he will be a teenager. His childhood won’t come back,” he previously told Rhea Chakraborty.
