In an age when cinema is bustling with everything from grand epics to high-octane action thrillers, Tum Mere Ho offers a relatively uncomplicated romantic comedy that does not take itself too seriously. While the film has its share of script hiccups, it makes for an enjoyable one-time watch, thanks to its lighthearted moments, an interesting premise and a charming performance by Isha Malviya.

The film follows Akash (Gurmeet Choudhary), a thrill-seeking skydiver whose seemingly happy relationship falls apart when his girlfriend, Nisha (Anushka Lohar), cheats on him. With her father financing his skydiving company, Drop Zone, the betrayal puts both his personal and professional life in a difficult spot. Heartbroken, Akash eventually finds himself at a family wedding, where he meets Tamanna (Isha Malviya), an effervescent, funny and spirited young woman, and the two hit it off.

However, Tamanna has her own reasons for wanting to get married. Her maternal grandmother, played by Lillette Dubey, has stipulated that she must marry and sustain the marriage for a year to inherit the family property. Still nursing feelings for a man who has ghosted her, she sees a marriage of convenience with Akash as a way to achieve her goal. For Akash, too, the arrangement offers an escape from his troubled relationship. But when Nisha sets out to exact revenge by auctioning off his company, the situation becomes increasingly complicated, even as Akash begins to develop genuine feelings for his new bride.

The wedding portions are among the film’s most enjoyable stretches. There is humour, a sense of familiarity and enough funny moments to keep things moving. The premise has the makings of a fun romantic comedy, although the screenplay does not always make the most of it. The narrative occasionally goes haywire, with certain developments feeling rather convenient and some emotional beats lacking the depth they need. A tighter script could have made the romantic conflicts and the stakes surrounding the marriage far more engaging.

Isha Malviya, in her first Bollywood outing, is a definite bright spot. Effervescent and naturally charming, she brings an easy spontaneity to Tamanna and is convincing even when the writing lets her down. She has a pleasant screen presence and a knack for the lighter moments and that makes her performance one of the film’s biggest strengths.

Gurmeet Choudhary, meanwhile, could have done better, especially in bringing greater nuance to Akash’s emotional journey. That said, his chemistry with Isha works in the film’s favour. The two share a certain ease on screen that lends credibility to their evolving relationship. Anushka Lohar is convincingly conniving as Nisha, the girlfriend whose vindictiveness drives much of the conflict.

Tum Mere Ho is not without its flaws. Its story has potential, but the writing needed more polish, when juggling the comedy, romance and the twists that propel the plot. Yet, there is something appealing about its relatively simple approach to love and relationships. It occasionally reminds you of a time when romantic comedies were content to tell a straightforward story without the need to be grand or overly ambitious.

Despite its stretches, the film is a fairly pleasant watch, buoyed by Isha’s charm and the lead pair’s chemistry. A nice, one-time watch.

Tum Mere Ho is produced by Reva Creative House and DebGuru Films, with Aarti S and Debina Bonnerjee serving as producers. Romanch Mehta and Aman Riyastee are the co-producers. Directed by Ashish Panda, the film also features Shaan R Grover, Anushkaa Luhar, Romanch Mehta, Annissha Garg and others.
