AR Rahman shared an unusual story from his past at the Ramayana event in Chennai on October 21. The composer revealed that he had received an email in 2014 from a man named Sathish, who described a dream in which Rahman was presenting the epic through musical performances across India and abroad. More than a decade later, Rahman is composing the music for the upcoming film alongside Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer, making the old message particularly memorable.

AR Rahman recalls a fan’s message

Speaking to the audience in Chennai, the 59-year-old composer shared an anecdote that dated back to 2014. “There is something I wanted to share. In 2014, a gentleman called Sathish manifested that I would be composing the music for Ramayana,” AR Rahman recalled. He went on to read out the email Sathish had sent him, recounting the vision he had described more than a decade ago.

The message read, “You appeared in my dream early in the morning. I believe it will come true. You were doing musical shows throughout India and the world, presenting the great epic Ramayana.”

Meanwhile, at the Chennai event, Yash spoke about his admiration for AR Rahman’s music. He said, “All of us are huge fans of AR Rahman sir. I learnt Tamil because of his songs. I used to dance to songs from Gentleman. Your contribution to the Tamil industry is massive. If I hear Tamil songs in Hindi, I feel something is missing. I am happy that you are composing the music for Ramayana and that I am able to perform to it.”

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film’s first instalment is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
