Acknowledging the controversy, Ranbir Kapoor clarified what he had intended to say during the festive event and used the lyrics of his A.R. Rahman song from ‘Rockstar’ to explain how his words had conveyed the wrong meaning.

He then clarified the message he had wanted to convey: “What I meant to say is, ‘Burai chaahe kitni bhi taaqatwar kyun na ho, aakhir mein jeet achhai aur sachchai ki hogi.’ (No matter how powerful evil may be, goodness and truth will ultimately triumph).”
Ranbir’s clarification came after his earlier remarks at the Dussehra celebration in Kolkata went viral and led to trolling. His choice of words had left viewers confused about the message he was trying to convey, leading to jokes and criticism on social media.
Ranbir Kapoor Quotes His ‘Rockstar’ Song
While explaining the verbal slip, Ranbir brought up his experience of working with music composer A.R. Rahman on Rockstar. He quoted a line from the film’s song Jo Bhi Main, which seemed particularly fitting for the situation.
“What I want to say is, ‘Jo bhi main kehna chahu, barbaad kare alfaaz mere,’” the actor joked. The lyric translates roughly to, “Whatever I wish to say, my words ruin it.” AR Rahman was also present at the grand album launch in Chennai.
What Was Ranbir Kapoor’s Dussehra Remark Controversy?
The controversy began after a video of Ranbir speaking at a Dussehra event in Kolkata went viral on social media. While discussing the festival’s message of good triumphing over evil, the ‘Ramayana’ actor’s words suggested the opposite of what he meant.
Given that Ranbir is set to portray Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, the remark attracted additional attention. The epic is closely associated with the victory of good over evil, making the verbal slip particularly noticeable to viewers.
“Dussehra humein ek bahut khoobsurat baat yaad dilati hai, ki burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun naa ho, aakhir mein ant sacchai aur achchai ki hi hogi (Dussehra reminds us of a beautiful thing: no matter how powerful evil is, truth and goodness will ultimately end),” he said.
The clip prompted a wave of online reactions, with some users poking fun at the actor’s wording. Others viewed it as a speaking mistake that had been amplified on social media.
At the Chennai event, Ranbir directly addressed the incident, clarified his intended message and apologised.
