Veteran actress Anita Kanwal has revealed that she needs work as her savings will run out in a year.
Anita Kanwal has opened up about her financial struggles, revealing that her savings could run out within a year if she is unable to find work. Despite decades in television and films, the veteran actress says she is still looking for meaningful opportunities and wants to continue earning rather than depend on her children.
‘My Funds Are Running Low’: Anita Kanwal
In a recent conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Anita Kanwal said that her house is her primary asset and that the money she has set aside will not sustain her indefinitely. “I need to earn. Maybe I’ll live for 10 more years or 20 more years, what will I do? I live in a beautiful house which some of it was done by my parents, some I took loan and I paid it off. So that is my only asset and I have a little capital which I know will be exhausted in a year, so that’s why I need work. My funds are running low,” she said.
Returning to work is about more than just money for her. She has also spoken about the importance of staying professionally active for her mental well-being as well.
‘I Don’t Want To Depend On My Children’
Anita Kanwal said her children are willing to help her financially, but she would rather maintain the independence she has built over the years.
“I never want to reach a point where I have to depend on my children or ask them for anything. I want to continue providing them, just like always. They sometimes ask, ‘Mom, why do you still give us birthday gifts?’ It actually hurts me when they say that, because I enjoy giving. I want to remain in a position where I can continue to do so,” she said.
Struggling To Find Roles Despite Decades In The Industry
Anita Kanwal’s financial concerns come amid difficulties finding acting work. She said she sometimes receives casting enquiries for characters much younger than herself.
“It’s fine if someone asks me to introduce myself, but when they ask what work I have done, I find that very weird. I have done 50–60 shows in my life. I still get casting calls to play 21-year-old characters because they don’t know who to send the message,” she said.
A Look At Her Career
Anita Kanwal has worked across television and Hindi cinema for several decades. She became familiar to television audiences through shows such as Banegi Apni Baat, Shanti and Sonpari, and later appeared in Sasural Genda Phool and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.
Her film credits include Shah Rukh Khan’s Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Mujhse Dosti Karoge! and Prakash Jha’s Gangaajal. She also ventured into production, establishing her own production house and producing the television serial Goonj Ateet Ki. More recently, she appeared in the 2024 series Raisinghani vs Raisinghani.
