Mika Singh Defends Daler Mehndi, Denies Alcohol Claims: ‘He Has Been Unwell For Past 2 Years’ | Video

A video of Daler Mehndi’s recent performance in Uttarakhand during Navratri celebrations went viral on social media. The singer’s performance at the Kunjapuri Mela in Tehri district was interrupted by state cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal, who confronted him over his conduct and alleged he was lip syncing. As per reports, he also alleged that Mehndi was performing under the influence of alcohol. Now, amid the controversy, singer Mika Singh has come out in support of Daler Mehndi, clarifying that the latter does not consume alcohol. He also said that it was disappointing to see such allegations, and shared that Daler Mehndi has been unwell for the past two years and is recovering.

Mika Singh Comes Out In Support Of Daler Mehndi

On October 20, Mika Singh shared a video message, denying allegations that Daler Mehndi performed under the influence of alcohol. He said that Mehndi had been unwell for the past 2 years and recently underwent a major surgery, suggesting his health condition may have affected his performance. Mika challenged anyone who had seen Daler drinking alcohol to come forward, declaring that he would quit singing if someone could substantiate the claim.

In his caption, Mika wrote, “Happy Dussehra, everyone! A special request to our media friends: Please verify the facts before publishing any news! If someone makes allegations without proof, please don’t believe them blindly or spread the news without checking the truth.”

‘The Way Daler Mehndi Was Treated On Stage Was Disappointing’

He further added, “The way Daler Mehndi was treated on stage was disappointing. A respected minister came on stage and made allegations about him drinking alcohol. But before publishing such claims, shouldn’t we verify the facts and give the artist a chance to present his side? Would anyone dare to behave like that with an international band like Coldplay? I know my brother Daler Mehndi, and he does not drink alcohol. He has been unwell for the past two years and is still recovering, yet he continues to perform with his band.”

Further addressing allegations about Daler Mehndi using backing tracks, Mika added, “These days, many performers use backing tracks, but nobody questions them in the same way. Daler Mehndi is one of India’s biggest superstars, and perhaps that is why he becomes an easy target. I request our media friends to be responsible and fair. A headline can damage someone’s reputation, so please check the facts before publishing anything. Respect our artists. Verify before you report. Stand by the truth.”

Daler Mehndi Performed Despite Being Unwell, Says Mika Singh

In the video, Mika Singh suggested that Daler Mehndi may have performed despite being unwell because he had already committed to the show. He said that his recent major surgery could have affected his ability to sing and stand properly.

Mika Singh acknowledged the minister’s concerns about Daler Mehndi’s performance but urged him not to allege that the singer was performing under the influence of alcohol.

What Happened During Daler Mehndi’s Performance?

The controversy erupted after Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi’s performance at the Kunjapuri Fair in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district on October 18, during Navratri celebrations. State Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal walked onto the stage and confronted the singer, alleging that he appeared intoxicated and was lip-syncing instead of singing live.

“There is a Durga Mata programme for Navratri, and you are singing at the event after drinking alcohol, which is not appropriate,” NDTV quoted the minister saying.

He also questioned the singer’s ability to speak clearly. He was heard saying, “Bol toh jaa nahi raha, gaana kya gaoge?” which translates to, “You can’t even speak, so how are you going to sing?”

Later, while speaking with ANI, the minister said that Daler Mehndi was offered Rs 35 lakh for the performance. He alleged that the singer seemed ‘disoriented’ on stage, and was lip-syncing to his songs.
