Imran Khan to challenge FRRO’s ‘Leave India’ notice in Bombay high court

Bollywood actor Imran Khan has approached the Bombay High Court following a ‘Leave India’ notice issued against him by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after he participated in the CJP’s protest. On October 10, Imran Khan participated in a protest held in Mumbai seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Following this, the police alleged that he had violated the Foreigners Act, as he is not an Indian citizen. The Mumbai office of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) subsequently served a ‘Leave India’ notice on Imran Khan, asking him to leave the country by October 28. Now, as per Bar and Bench’s report, Imran has challenged the order before the Bombay High Court. Meanwhile, details regarding the grounds of the petition and the circumstances leading to the notice are still awaited.

Imran Khan Was Detained in Mumbai

Imran Khan was detained on October 10 while protesting in Mumbai amid the CJP’s Jantar Mantar protest. Following his detention, the actor took to Instagram to share a picture from inside a police van and wrote, “Apparently, I’m going for a drive.” Lekha Washington, Imran Khan’s girlfriend, also shared a story, writing, “Romance ho to aisi.”

What Imran Khan Said on Joining the Protest?

The Delhi Belly actor said he had joined the protest in an individual capacity rather than as a representative of any political group. “I don’t have any status to demand anything from people. Nor am I a part of any organisation, so I don’t speak as a representative,” he told reporters at the site.

Imran Khan Tried to Get an Indian Passport?

“I am trying to get an Indian passport. The official proceedings are on. I hope I acquire it soon as some big things are on their way,” he told India Today in an earlier interview and added, “I feel it is my duty to serve my country. I cannot vote here because I am not a citizen, but I do take part in elections by creating awareness about the importance of voting, because I feel I am a part of this country.”

In a 2013 chat with Hindustan Times, the actor said, “It’s ridiculous. Personally, it’s more frustrating as, being an American citizen, I can’t vote here. So I feel driven to make up for it in other ways. Even if I manage to get 20 people to vote, I feel like I’ve contributed.”
