Aarya Babbar, who is set to portray Ravana in the theatrical production Mahabali, has weighed in on Yash’s first look as the demon king in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana. While Babbar believes it is too early to comment on Yash’s performance, he feels the actor’s appearance in the film does not look significantly different from his rugged avatar in the KGF franchise. He also came to the defence of Saif Ali Khan, who played Ravana in Om Raut’s Adipurush, crediting the actor with bringing a distinct intensity to the role and arguing that an actor’s portrayal is shaped by the director’s vision.

Aarya Babbar talks about Yash’s look in Ramayana

While speaking to Variety India recently, Aarya Babbar said that he feels Yash’s look as Ravana in Ramayana bears similarities to his KGF avatar, but believes it is too early to judge his performance in the film. He shared, “Honestly, it’s too early to comment on what he’s bringing to the character. I did not honestly feel that there is anything new in his look except the costumes. It’s pretty much the same beard that he’s had in ‘KGF’ before. It is not a new look per se that I’ve seen in ‘Ramayana’. I saw a new look of his in ‘Toxic’. I did not see it in this.”

Babbar added that Yash could surprise audiences with his performance once the full film is released. While he hopes the actor brings a fresh interpretation to Ravana, Babbar noted that the first look reminded him of Yash’s appearance in the KGF franchise. He added, “Yash is playing it for an international audience, not just for an Indian audience. And it’s visible with what Mr. Tiwari is doing.”

Aarya Babbar also praised Saif Ali Khan’s portrayal of Ravana in Adipurush, arguing that an actor’s performance is shaped by the director’s vision. He suggested that actors should not be held entirely accountable for a film’s creative decisions, as their interpretations depend largely on how the characters are conceived and presented by the filmmaker. He said, “I think Saif was very good as Ravana. An actor is only as good as the director’s perception and interpretation. So whatever he played in ‘Adipurush’ is also something what the director must have made him perform. But he brought about a different kind of intensity to the character. His performance, his look, everything was a director’s interpretation. You cannot blame the actor for that.”

Meanwhile, Ramayana, helmed by Nitesh Tiwari and featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Ravi Dubey, Sunny Deol and others, is scheduled to release in theatres on November 5, 2026.

Aarya Babbar stated that it is too early to judge Yash’s overall performance, but he remarked that Yash’s look as Ravana resembles his rugged beard and appearance from the KGF franchise rather than presenting something entirely new outside of the costumes.
