Anupam Kher has joined the cast of Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana as the voice of Jatayu, the revered bird who attempts to rescue Sita from Ravana. The makers have unveiled a new poster featuring the character, with the announcement coming ahead of the film’s advance bookings, which open on Dussehra, October 20.
Jatayu plays an important role in the epic, remembered for confronting Ravana when he abducts Sita. Despite facing a much more powerful opponent, the bird fights to protect her, making him a symbol of courage and dharma.

The makers introduced Jatayu through two visuals. One features a close-up of the bird’s intense gaze, while another shows him with his wings spread wide. Sharing the poster on social media, the makers wrote, “When evil took flight, courage rose to meet it. He fought not for victory, but for what was right. Jatayu. The Wings of Dharma. Anupam Kher as Jatayu in Ramayana.”
Anupam Kher’s casting adds a big name to the ensemble of the upcoming epic, which features several leading actors in key roles. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Rocking Star Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
Ramayana Part 1 To Release Worldwide On November 5
The makers recently confirmed that Ramayana Part 1 will arrive in cinemas worldwide on November 5, 2026. The film will release in India on the same day as its international debut.
The announcement also confirmed that advance bookings will open on Dussehra, October 20. The makers shared the release date during Navratri, linking the announcement to the festival’s association with the victory of good over evil.
The caption accompanying the announcement read, “On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, we celebrate the beginning of a new era.
