Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 in Goa in the early hours of Thursday, October 8. Days later, the autopsy confirmed a heart attack as the cause, and a timeline of his final hours has now come into focus.
Nana Patekar Death: The Timeline
According to news agency PTI, Nana Patekar’s caretaker approached a private hospital in Goa and requested an ambulance after the actor fell unwell at his home in Dona Paula, near Panaji, on October 8. A report by ThePrint, citing Manipal Hospital doctor Dr Shekhar Salkar, said Patekar had messaged a friend at around 3.30 am saying he was not feeling well. The friend saw the message around 4 am and rushed to the actor’s residence, where he found him unwell. The caretaker then went to the hospital to arrange an ambulance, and the medical team began treatment during the transfer. Doctors continued CPR for around 45 minutes, but Patekar could not be revived. He was declared dead at 5.10 am.
Nana Patekar Cause Of Death
His mortal remains were then taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a postmortem examination. According to PTI, the report recorded Nana Patekar’s cause of death as “acute myocardial infarction due to left main coronary artery thrombosis secondary to atherosclerotic occlusive coronary artery disease, a natural cause of death”. A senior GMCH doctor confirmed the findings on Sunday, October 11.
What Is Acute Myocardial Infarction?
Nana Patekar died after suffering an acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, after a blood clot blocked his left main coronary artery, which supplies blood to a large part of the heart. The clot developed due to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, a condition in which fatty deposits build up inside the arteries, narrowing them and restricting blood flow. The blockage interrupted the blood supply to the heart muscle, causing the heart attack. The autopsy report classified his death as natural.
Nana Patekar Funeral, Last Rites
His son, Malhar Patekar, travelled to Goa to bring his father’s mortal remains back to Maharashtra. The body was first taken to Pune and then to the actor’s farmhouse in Donje village, where Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours on October 8.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Union Ministers Ramdas Athawale and Murlidhar Mohol, Lok Sabha MP Sunil Tatkare, NAAM Foundation co-founder Makarand Anaspure, FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and actor Jackie Shroff were among those who paid their last respects.
