Soni Razdan has worked in several top films of Bollywood and television shows. While she was receiving several projects after her marriage to Mahesh Bhatt, she abruptly stepped away from films. Now, in a recent interview, Soni recalled how everything was working fine, but suddenly the work stopped as soon as she got married.
Speaking to Zoom, Soni revealed, “I was already working when I got married. So that work continued, but then after that, nothing happened. Just zero. It’s like everything went away.” “Your wife needs to work? She’s married, isn’t she?” people told Mahesh Bhatt after they got married, the actress revealed, but this was an alien concept for Soni Razdan.
“It was such an alien concept to me. I didn’t come from that thought process, that mind. In those days, a lot of people did,” she said.
Talking about the patriarchy in the industry while she was working, the actor said, “It’s all about the male gaze and some skewed notion of what a desirable woman actually is.”
The actress went on to question people’s requirements from women and said, “Why does she also have to be desirable in the first place? I get it. You’re in films. People are going to watch you for two and a half hours. You better have something to show, something that they would want to look at. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a relationship.”
