Karan Johar is reportedly mounting a grand Radha Krishna epic for Dharma Productions, with Avane Srimannarayana filmmaker Sachin Ravi set to direct.
Karan Johar reportedly plans a grand Radha Krishna epic under Dharma Productions with Sachin Ravi as director.
Karan Johar is reportedly preparing to enter the historical-devotional space with a film centred on the story of Radha and Krishna. After decades of producing and directing films largely rooted in romance, family drama and contemporary relationships, the filmmaker is now looking towards Indian scriptures for one of Dharma Productions’ most ambitious projects.
According to a Pinkvilla report, the film has been titled Radha Krishna and is currently in an advanced stage of development. Filmmaker Sachin Ravi has reportedly been brought on board to write and direct the project. The cast, however, remains under wraps.
Karan Johar Has Wanted To Make Radha Krishna For Years
A source close to the development claimed that Karan had been keen to bring the story of Radha and Krishna to cinema for a long time but was waiting for the right screenplay.
“Karan Johar has been wanting to make a film on Radha Krishna for the longest time, and he has finally found a script that does justice to one of the biggest and most iconic love stories from the Indian scriptures. The film is being written and directed by Sachin Ravi for Dharma Productions, and it is in the advanced stages of development at the moment,” the source was quoted as saying.
The project is expected to be mounted on a large scale, with its makers planning an expansive visual treatment for the story. At the same time, the film will reportedly retain romance, emotion, drama and tragedy as its principal ingredients.
Film To Follow Krishna’s Journey From His Birth To Kansa’s Death
While Radha Krishna will place the relationship between Radha and Krishna at its emotional centre, its narrative is expected to cover a wider portion of Krishna’s life.
“The film will chronicle the journey from Krishna’s birth to the killing of Kansa, but at the core of it is the divine love story of Radha and Krishna,” the source added.
Further details about the screenplay and the film’s interpretation of the story have not been revealed. Dharma Productions has also not announced the actors being considered to play Radha and Krishna.
Who Is Sachin Ravi?
Sachin Ravi, who is reportedly writing and directing Radha Krishna, has previously worked extensively in Kannada cinema. He directed the 2019 fantasy adventure comedy Avane Srimannarayana, starring Rakshit Shetty. The film emerged as a sleeper hit following its release.
Before moving into direction, Sachin established himself as an editor and worked on several Kannada films. His credits include Kirik Party, Ulidavaru Kandanthe and Simple Agi Ondh Love Story, among others.
For Karan, meanwhile, Radha Krishna would represent a significant departure from the kind of films most closely associated with his body of work. Dharma Productions has backed projects across different genres over the years, but a large-scale cinematic retelling drawn from Indian scriptures takes the banner into relatively unexplored territory.
Casting discussions and other production details are yet to be made public. With the project reportedly already in advanced development, further announcements about its lead actors and production timeline are expected to follow.
