Salil Acharya, who played Ronnie Malik in the 2007 film, took to Instagram to share an update about Awarapan now streaming on Prime Video. “And it’s out and trending on #AmazonPrime… go watch #Awarapan now… guns and fights and chases galore. #ShivamvsRonnie,” he wrote.
What Is Awarapan About?
Released in 2007, Awarapan stars Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit, a troubled man working for a powerful criminal played by Ashutosh Rana. The story takes a turn when Shivam is asked to keep an eye on a young woman, and he gradually becomes emotionally invested in her situation. The film combines crime, romance and redemption.
Helmed by Mohit Suri, Awarapan stars Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma and Ashutosh Rana.
The film’s music, particularly tracks such as “Toh Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta,” also went on to become an important part of its popularity over the years.
Did Awarapan Re-Release In Theatres?
There was considerable buzz earlier this year about Awarapan returning to theatres. Reports had suggested that the film would re-release on July 31, ahead of Awarapan 2. However, that did not happen.
Emraan Hashmi later clarified during a live session that the July re-release reports were incorrect. He confirmed that the makers still intend to bring Awarapan back to cinemas, but the re-release is planned after Awarapan 2. However, a new theatrical release date has not yet been announced.
In August, Emraan went live on Instagram and said that the 2007 Awarapan will re-release in theatres only after Awarapan 2. He explained that the makers have deliberately planned the release order. According to him, fans who watched the original film years ago will revisit Shivam Pandit’s story with new emotions after watching the sequel. At the same time, younger audiences who have never watched Awarapan will discover the original 2007 film as a prequel.
However, there is no update about Awarapan’s theatrical re-release yet.
